Brighton music
This is a collection of things I love about the Brighton music scene, which is one of the best I've known for various reasons!
Open mics
The Neptune - Hove - Monday
Awesome pub and loves it's music. Lots of talented people gather on a Monday night for an awesome night of supportive and great music. You can usually get Theseus the organiser to join in with his varied percussion set up!
The Freemasons - Wednesday
Great little pub and a good open mic night, can be busy or quiet but always fun and supportive crowd.
Fiddlers Elbow - Sunday
Great little pub and really good open mic night on a Sunday night. Can go on into the early hours!!
For all the Open mic latest, best to check the Brighton Open Mic Facebook group
Full band open mic
The Gladstone on Monday nights, have full backline available for full bands to rock up and do 20 minutes sets. Run by Beluga Promotions (unfortunately has a summer break but back in September I hope!)
Practice Rooms
We love Third Circle recordings, but it's over in Portslade, but £40 for 3 hours is cracking value!
Other good options for practice are Small Pond, Brighton Electric, Pirate Studios and Under the Bridge
Favourite Venues
Hope and Ruin have gigs on upstairs all the time, lots of Emo and Rock and Punk going on. Prince Albert have a huge range of Music going on! Green Door Store and Patterns sometimes have some good gigs, basically I look out on DiceFM for what's on and I'm free.
For bigger and upcoming artists, I always look for gigs at Chalk or Concorde2. At a push the Dome is a decent venue, but tends to be pricy.
I avoid the Brighton Centre, it's not set up for gigs and sound is shit.
For good gigs, I always check out Sugar Free and Love Thy Neighbour for guaranteed good shows.
